Hyaluronic acid is a key natural component of youthful skin that is vital in retaining moisture and keeping skin smooth and firm. As we age, the natural production of hyaluronic acid declines, and this manifests as lacklustre-looking skin that is less hydrated and has a saggy appearance. Dermal fillers, which are composed of hyaluronic acid gel, feel soft and natural, and are injected just under the superficial layer of skin (into the 'dermis') to replace or enhance volume and firmness, and improve the overall aesthetics of the face.
We use hyaluronic acid fillers of the finest quality (Juvéderm), which are the safest products on the market. They typically last between 6 to 9 months and are reversible if required. The new Juvéderm Vycross® range has a longer duration of between 12 to 18 months.
An additional benefit that has recently been noted is that hyaluronic acid fillers may enable the skin to create more collagen, which, in turn, further reduces the appearance of creases and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are commonly used for treating the nasolabial fold, melolabial fold (Marionette lines), the upper lip (for 'smoker's' lines), and for lip augmentation. All treatments are administered by Harley Street-trained Dr Joseph.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen at my consultation?
You will meet with the Joseph & Joseph Medical team and discuss a bespoke treatment plan for you. We will ensure you have a clear understanding of the treatment and that we can meet your expectations.
What does the treatment involve?
We will make sure that you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible prior to the treatment. Small amounts of hyaluronic acid are injected into the desired areas of the face, just under the superficial layer of the skin, using a small needle. The treatment itself takes approximately 30 minutes but the overall consultation can take up to one hour if topical anaesthetic cream is applied.
Will it be obvious that I’ve had treatment?
At Joseph & Joseph Medical we strive to achieve the most natural results, with subtle but significant changes. We want you to look and feel rejuvenated and fresh.
Is there any downtime or need to take time off work?
No, there is no downtime and all our clients can return to work immediately (if they so wish!).
Is the treatment painful?
As the needle used is very fine and only a tiny amount of product is used, which also contains an anaesthetic, any pain that is experienced is minimal. No sedation is required for these treatments, topical anaesthetic cream is usually applied.
When will I see results and how long will they last?
You will see immediate results and the treatment typically lasts for 6 to 9 months. The new Juvéderm Vycross® range lasts for between 12 to 18 months.
