Wrinkle reduction (Botulinum A toxin)

Botulinum A toxin is a sterile, purified protein produced in the laboratory from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. This protein is injected in very small amounts into the face to target prominent frown lines and crows feet around the eyes. It works by binding to the nerve endings supplying the muscles and preventing nerve impulses being sent to the muscle. The overall effect is relaxation of the targeted area, which in turn reduces wrinkles and prevents new wrinkles from forming.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen at my consultation?

You will meet with the Joseph & Joseph Medical team and agree on a bespoke treatment plan for you. We will ensure you have a clear understanding of the treatment and that we can meet your expectations.

What does the treatment involve?

We will ensure that you are as comfortable and relaxed as possible prior to the treatment. Very small amounts of Botulinum A toxin are injected into the desired areas of the face using a tiny needle. We only use the most premium products on the market recognised to yield the best results.

The treatment takes approximately 15-30 minutes.

Will it be obvious that I’ve had treatment?

At Joseph & Joseph Medical we strive to achieve the most natural results. We want you to look and feel rejuvenated and fresh. Normal facial expressions including smiling or looking surprised will be unaffected as we target the small muscles that are responsible for the unwanted wrinkles only.

Many of our clients note that unaware friends or colleagues comment that they look more fresh or youthful.

Is there any downtime or need to take time off work?

No, there is no downtime and all our clients can return to work immediately (if they so wish!).

Is the treatment safe and what are the most common side effects?

Yes, in the small amounts used for the treatment. Botulinium A toxin treatment has been approved by the FDA and used safely in medical and cosmetic treatments for over 20 years. All of our treatments are carried out by an accredited Doctor.

The most common side effects are mild redness of the skin and localised bruising, which is temporary. Other less common risks will be discussed in full at your consultation.

Is the treatment painful?

As the needle used is very fine and only a tiny amount of product is used, any pain that is experienced is minimal.

No sedation or local anaesthesia is required for these treatments.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Improvements will be noticed within 1-2 weeks, and typically last between 3 to 6 months.
